Cologne Marathon 2026 Pacers
About
Last Friday, I was made aware that a pacer was required for the Cologne Marathon 2026. One of the 5-hour pacers had pulled out at the last minute due to health reasons, and the organisers were under pressure. I jumped at the chance, and less than 24 hours later, I was in Cologne at the Motorworld Museum, picking up my race pack and flag. Due to a request from another pacer, I ended up walking away with the 4-hour-45-minute pacer slot. This photo was taken upstairs in the VIP area. I am on the far right side at the back.
On Sunday, the reality of my spontaneous decision came to light. After three hours of slow-tempo running, I suddenly realised that I had never actually run for more than four hours in my life. Running slower seemed easy at first, but spending more time on my feet is also somewhat of a challenge. I pulled through and crossed the line with around 90 seconds to spare.
