The Gobbins, Islandmagee, Northern Ireland
About
This lovely bridge, known as "The Tubular Bridge" is part of "The Gobbins" Cliff walkway located in Islandmagee, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. I had never heard of the place until yesterday but apparently it was once the main tourism attraction in Northern Ireland.
According to our amazing guide (thanks Ian), this short path along the coastline was originally created in 1902 by a visionary railway engineer called Berkeley Deane Wise. It was designed to boost tourism and quickly became an internationally acclaimed attraction. It consists of several suspended bridges which hang around 10 metres above the Irish sea. It's also a great place to see wildlife and we even saw a Puffin.
The tour took about 90 minutes in total. Due to health and safety, hiking boots and a helmet must be worn.
