Shepherd Water Wheel Grinding Mill, Porter Valley, Sheffield
About
Today I visited this 400 year old water powered knife grinding mill. The huge water wheel which powered the various grinding machines inside though was currently out of action. The mill is located in the Porter Valley area near Endcliffe Park. Sheffield was the largest producer of cutelry in the 17th century outside of London. The mill was free to visit and inside we were shown by enthusiasts how the old fashioned grinding machines would have been operated back in the day.
